English Language Arts Frameworks
The ELA Frameworks have been designed to give educators an idea of what instruction across one year might look like in any one grade level. These units are also designed to: 1) demonstrate how all of the standards are introduced and revisited within one year and 2) demonstrate how the reading, writing, and listening/speaking/viewing standards are integrated within a single unit of study. Educators should keep in mind that these units are suggestions, not a mandated curriculum. As educators read through the various documents, they should be aware of the important factors discussed below such as: tasks, units, student work, organization and time.
Grades K-3
GPS Integrated Frameworks
**Curriculum maps and frameworks below focus on the integration of the ELA content subject areas.
Frameworks and Sample Tasks
**Curriculum maps and frameworks below focus on ELA content subject areas independently of each other.

Detailed Lesson Plans for ELA
These units are intended to provide educators with examples of how instruction might look within the standards based classroom. These units are written in a very detailed format, including day by day plans, in order to provide teachers with clear explanations of the information within in each unit.

Vertically Aligned Matrices
The vertically aligned matrices provide a tool for teachers to use to determine, at a glance, the significant concepts, processes, and content vocabulary terminology for the grade or course that precedes and the grade or course that follows a grade or course being taught in English Language Arts.
K-12 Aligned Matrices
Rigorous Tasks and Vertical Alignment for ELA (Elem-HS)
The ELA vertically aligned tasks (elementary through high school) provide a tool for teachers to use to determine how to examine and develop rigorous, progressive tasks for students so learning becomes seamless and challenging. These tasks demonstrate how rigor in all five ELA domains ensures quality learning from elementary through high school.
